MINISTER APPOINTS NEW SWAZILAND RAILWAY BOARD

Swaziland Railway Strategic Development Plan took a positive direction on Monday, 13th June 2016 with the appointment of a new board. The Minister of Public Works & Transport, Ps. Lindiwe Dlamini announced the incoming board members and noted that government has the utmost trust in the new board that they will propel the organization to greater heights.
The Minister highlighting the separation of duties at the public entity indicated that “the role of the board is in crafting the strategic plan while the role of the management is to implement the strategy. In this regard, the management team needs to be committed, knowledgeable and focused.”
The Minister pleaded with the incoming board members to ensure that Swaziland Railway’s revenue grows, as it indicated profitability of 27 per cent above budget in the quarterly report ended 31st March 2016. Dlamini commended the performance of the outgoing board along with the present management team. “, 4 new mainline locomotives and 90 new wagons were commissioned. It was evidence of the Management’s performance in the implementation of the plan.” The new board members are: Mduduzi Gina – Chairman, Muzi Dlamini, Alex Mngomezulu, Sheila Dlamini, Kholekile Mlangeni-Kodiabor, Janet Zungu, and Vusi Masilela.
Dlamini stated that the rail link project which is in collaboration with South Africa’s Transnet will generate additional revenue for the organization. This project will finally complete the rail network connections which leads to three major ports in Southern Africa, namely; Maputo, Richards Bay and Durban. The project connects Lothair (In South Africa) to Sidvokodvo (in Swaziland) and the project is expected to be completed before 2022.
