The Dam Supervisor, who is assisted by the water bailiff, heads this section. There are also five dam operators and nine dam labourers. This section reports to the Water Resources Development Engineer.
The mandate of this section is to ensure proper dam management, and ensure flood and drought risk mitigation through informed dam operations. Activities of this section include:
o Safe operation and maintenance of the dams;
o Proper release of water to satisfy downstream users and the ecological environment;
o Flood and drought forecasting;
o Overall responsibility of safe operation and maintenance of dams;
o Inspection and maintenance the water works including instrumentation at the dam site;
o Obtaining necessary information from users, telemetry and other related water monitoring technologies;
o Ensuring that correct releases are made from the dams at all times;
o Ensuring that proper records and data from the dam are kept; and
o Responsibility of all stores and equipment.
