Acting Minister for Public Works & Transport Jabulile Mashwama (Minister for Natural Resources & Energy) on Thursday, 29th September 2016 officially launched joint road safety operations safety between Swaziland and South Africa held on MR3 Highway Junction at Motshane (where the first road block was held.)

The Acting Minister in her address highlighted that the safety of all persons utilizing the road network is essential, so that we can have an accident free society. It operation is also significant for the custodians of transport to constantly provide knowledge and understanding of the causes and consequences of road accidents to road users and the impact it has on the economies and families therefore conveying information can help alleviate inappropriate road behaviour.  

Mashwama stated that unroadworthy vehicles, (most commonly busses & taxis) are one of the common accidents causes of accidents in the country and it is necessary for vehicle owners to fix their vehicles before they cause accidents. 

The benefits of cross-border collaborations are vital to foster mutually beneficial relationships and  to share knowledge, good practice and information sharing to better coordinate projects and activities for the various organizations.

The joint operation custodians include; Royal Swaziland Police Service (RSP), Swaziland Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Cross Boarder Road Transport Agency, Road Accident Fund, Swaziland Road Safety Council and Swaziland Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF), among others.
